I need to come up with an idea for my project, which area would you as employer find most relevant and interesting?
Gameplay/game mechanics; graphics; AI; physics; audio; cutting-edge methods/game content tools. |
Could you give me more information on the STG role?
Rare's STG (Shared Technology Group) is a department that writes much of the technology and tools used to help Software Engineers on development teams make great games. The technology package includes a graphics pipeline, rendering and special effects; maths, physics and collision detection; audio tools and Maya plugins. As an STG Engineer you would be working with this technology, extending it, optimising it, developing new technologies and harvesting existing technologies (both internal and from within Microsoft Game Studios).

Is previous industry experience required?
Not really - we're looking to take on any great people we find. Rare (and Microsoft) also have a history of taking on graduates and investing time in them to develop the skills and attributes we need.
|
Do you offer sponsorships/take on interns?
While we are unable to offer sponsorships, we do have limited vacancies in our 11-month internship programme in the Software and Art fields. From Summer 2008 we are also offering shorter Software and Art placements lasting 2-3 months. For more information, see the Interns section. |
Where can I learn more about what it's really like to work at Rare?
We have a range of first-hand staff profiles offering details on typical employee backgrounds and their everyday Rare lives. You can read about the experiences of Games Programmers and STG Programmers alike in the Rare Life section.
