Can you provide feedback on my ideas?

Unfortunately we are unable to look at and evaluate ideas submitted to us due to UK copyright laws. While this is frustrating for both Rare and yourself, we can try to offer some advice as to what we look for and how you should present your work.

When creating ideas, try to put yourself in the player's shoes, as it's often forgotten that you are not creating the game for yourself. What will make this game fun for somebody to play? What makes it stand out? Why would they buy it?

A good game design can be summed up in one sentence, and you should be able to convey the basis of the whole game in just a few paragraphs. Pictures, however basic, really bring a concept to life and enable anyone who reads it to instantly understand your intended vision. Try limiting your designs to no more than a couple of pages each and then create as many varied ones as possible. Don't be afraid to try different things and new ways of thinking, as for every developed concept that becomes a produced game, there are many, many more that don't.

Is previous industry experience required?

Not at Rare. Although experience of how games are created is beneficial, we equally find that new people often bring new ideas and ways of thinking.

Where can I learn more about what it's really like to work at Rare?

We have a range of first-hand staff profiles offering details on typical employee backgrounds and their everyday Rare lives. You can read about the experiences of Games Designers in the Rare Life section.
