Pantsboard Responses - June 2004
June 2004's Burning Question:
What are your greatest hopes and fears for Kameo and Conker following Rare's updated E3 2004 showing?
Hey there, somewhat unattractive underdrawers man!
So, the Pantsboard is here again, and in need of responses. We'll start with Kameo. It looks great, graphic-wise and story-wise, and major kudos for having a chick as the character you play as. You're good to us gamer girls. Anywho, will Kameo, er, "kameo" any characters from previous Rare games? The goldfish in Banjo's house, perhaps? In any case, I have high hopes for this one. My only fear, though, is that the biased reviewers on some websites will tear into it viciously like they have with most other games you guys produced, calling it a clone of some other game and whatnot.
Now to Conker. Where to start? Massive online campaigns, gorgeous furry shenanigans with the characters and other stunning visual effects... Just splendid. And, again, with the chick you can play as on the squirrels' team... You guys are way too good to us gamer girls. My only real concern for Conker is the release date; is there a snowflake's chance in hell we'll be seeing it before March, or that it could be delayed again? I'm foaming at the mouth just waiting for this game, and I sure as hell ain't the only one.
That wraps it up, really. Can't wait for DKC2 GBA.
     Lovies,
     Enn
Mr. Pants says:
The ladies love Mr. Pants! Two things, lady: I wouldn't say most of Rare's games got a vicious tearing into by the reviewers, and the phrase "gorgeous furry shenanigans" could be horribly misinterpreted, but apart from that - you're a lovely lady. Even if you're really just a big hairy man pretending to be a lovely lady.
  'lo there Mr. Pants,
My greatest fear for Kameo is that you'll let her keep looking like she did at E3, which makes my greatest hope that you'll change her back. I mean, she seriously freaks me out now. Did the other Microsoft game studios point fingers and call you batty-boys because your female protagonist didn't sport a sufficiently skimpy outfit, and wasn't enough of a bimbo? Otherwise the game is looking bigger and better than ever, and hopes are that it'll keep surprising me all the way through.
My hopes for Conker would be that you could have a scene based on The Italian Job, though it's probably not going to happen, but general Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy gags will do as well. Fears? That it'll be so darn good I'd actuallly have to buy an Xbox myself, instead of bugging my classmate Christian, who's usually the butt of every joke for having bought one.

The Rare E3 presentations were awesome, Conker's graphics and multiplayer looked like it could live up to the original Conker's Bad Fur Day. Kameo was freakin' sick, no offense, but I thought it sucked a few years ago, this year, my faith was restored in Kameo. One problem, where the heck was Perfect Dark Zero, I can't live without it, its getting to the point where publications are making fun of it. Here is an excerpt from IGNXbox.
"These are games that we have actually seen, games we know exist, games we are pretty damned sure will come out in 2005. Xbox Next games (*COUPerfect DarkGH*) aren't included and neither are all of the hundreds of titles we don't know about -- the ones unannounced or merely rumored."
That is all, great E3, and Mr. Pants, go soil yourself.

  Dear Mr Underwear... erm... Pants,
After attending E3 2004 I am excited to own a copy of Conker later this year. After playing it there with you again this year I know for sure it will be one of the top games of any console. You really have to shape up on your skills, losing 20400202 - 0 isn't umm, you know, too good. Anyway, I fear the teddies. I have frequent nightmares and sometimes have to sleep with the plastic covers (shhh). Those teddies are scary beasts. Children will run frantic around the globe being afraid of the stuffed animal teddy bears in their corners. How can you live with yourself supporting such a game... it will only lead to the end of the world.
Anyway I can't wait for Conker. Work on your skills, I'll be looking forward to owning you in Perfect Dark Zero next year maybe.
Your crazy fun-loving macho man eating lima bean,
     Mike Parisi
Mr. Pants says:
That wasn't me, chum - you've been had by a Pants impostor. They're everywhere! And most of them aren't even any good. I bet both his legs were the same length and his nipples were in roughly the right place. Go on, tell me I'm wrong.
Actually my deepest fear for Conker is that you'll spend too much effort on the 'Future War' and the WW2-themed Old War won't get the same amount of polish. My greatest hope is that, now that Kameo has nicer boots and Conker doesn't look like he's made of putty anymore; will Joanna get another makeover too? I only ask because her metal plating is in all the wrong places! Her older (or is it later?) suit was far more practical, although I bet Jo would have something to say about how long it must've taken to get into the damn thing!
     Johnny Wood
Finally another Pantsboard, I was about to ask Scribes when the feature would be brought to life again. I'll start off with some questions for Mr. Pants hehe. Do you actually change your underwear? And when you were a baby, did they call you Mr. Nappies?
Alright back to the real subject. I'll start with Kameo first. My biggest fear for the game would be that the biggest focus is on the graphics. I'm totally not a graphic whore and I care much more for an epic adventure which lasts about 25 hours at least, with some funny mini-games and nice puzzles. I hope when it'll come out it has some of the gameplay Banjo-Kazooie/Tooie has to offer and that it is very different from Star Fox Adventures which was in my opinion, just to show off what the GameCube is capable of and not gameplay at all.
Another fear would be that Kameo will also be overlooked by the Xbox crowd, Grabbed by the Ghoulies was another Rare gem in my opinion and people almost completely overlooked it. I can only hope it will not happen with Kameo. Maybe it would be a good idea to bring out Conker first? People have Conker high on their list, so maybe when they enjoy Conker, they tend to try Kameo out as well, when it comes out.
My biggest hope is focused on a long adventure with plenty of mini games, solid gameplay, Rare humour and do not forget the famous Rare References!
For Conker I don't actually have a big fear. I can only fear that I'm short on money and can't enjoy the Conker Live option at all. Since Conker was first called Live & Uncut my biggest hopes are focused on some new levels or mini games which were cut out of the N64 version, but because there was a name change I'm not sure any more, if the uncut parts are still in the game (or if they ever were).
It came out a little longer than I expected, but it'll be a nice texture on some toilet paper, if you care to print it out.
     Adios,

Gerrit Arp
Mr. Pants says:
Is your surname based on the noise people make when they realise how long you're going to waffle on for?
You sir, are a complete mentalist. As a genuine compliment, of course.
I'd just like to say that the Rare composers are geniuses - the Kameo MP3s are fantastic. Kudos to the man with the £20,000 plug-ins. I was inspired by the music and wrote my own piece the other day. Unfortunately I realised it was just like Donkey Kong Country.
It happens every time. Damn you! Damn you fools! Begone!
A very appreciative Rare fan since 1997,

I'm absolutely desperate to get this one noticed and replied to, so here goes: Arse, GoldenEye beta, PD push button codes, Mr. Trout, even a little RPA featuring everybody's favourite Rareware editor!
What truly scares the hell out of me is the idea that Rare will jump on the internet play bandwagon and leave multiplayer bots behind. there are many of us that don't have a broadband connection and personally I only have one Xbox controller. With my N64 I don't always have friends around when I want to KF-7 someone in the Basement, infiltrate dataDyne with a buddy, whack a mini-sub with a well-placed torpedo or gas my best mate from the safety of the "central area", however - at least with CBFD and PD there are bots to play against. With Conker: Live and Reloaded, Rare states there will be things unlockable from playing multiplayer. If there aren't bots then everyone without Live misses out on that content. I know there are a lot of new vehicles and everything in Conker and there's a good chance Perfect Dark Zero will have Live play too but what I'm saying is - will Rare continue to include full AI-controlled bots in its multiplayer games?
     Desperately awaiting an answer -
     Mr. B (the birthday boy)
Hi I have some comments on Conker Live and Reloaded.
     1. Conker's single player experience, it's looking awesome; But, I'm having my doubts on the multiplayer. I really like the idea of driving vehicles, instead of what you guys did on the E3 2003. The problem that I have is that when you are driving one it doesn't feel like a real vehicle. I think you guys have to work more with the physics of the game. The current demo feels too much like UT2004 and I don't like that. When I'm driving something I want to feel the power, weight and more interaction with the environment. I think you should make it more real like let's say... mmmm... Halo.
I hope we can hear from you guys more often.
     Master J 007
Mr. Pants says:
What happened to "some" comments? Also, like Mr. B above, you fall into the common Pantsboard Misinterpretation Trap. You talk, we listen. You won't actually hear from us as we don't talk back. Well, I do, but hey! I don't make a lick of sense, you know?
To be honest, after this latest revision, I don't have ANY fears for Kameo. It seems to be shaping up quite nicely, and quite a few of those ignorant sites seem to have done a complete 180 for Kameo and welcomed her and the creepy family with open arms. Oh, and nice job on the sister's name. Hahaha, Kalus. Few puns are bad enough to make me groan out aloud. Well done, you.
Greatest hope for Conker? Well, I know that this will be the game that I buy Xbox Live for, so I hope that it's worth it. But I'm pretty sure that it will be. It doesn't look like I'll be able to get an online third person shooter (with KILLER TEDDY BEAR CYBORGS!) anywhere else. But my GREATEST hope is that now that Conker seems to don a Van Helsing outfit for the Zombies chapter, I hope that Count Batula has three Harpy squirrel wives that you need to kill. And also that the crossbow is gas-propelled. And that somehow, finishing Batula would be similar to how Van Helsing finished off Dracula. But, I don't know how much you plan to do with that parody, so however far you decide to go, I'll be satisfied.
Greatest fear for Conker? That it doesn't end up so realistic-looking that it dips into the "Uncanny Valley". But I think that it's a long way from that yet. Just make sure you leave those googly eyes on, and you should be right as rain. Looking forward to whenever both of these games come out, guys!
     Aussie Ben
We don't have any fears for Kameo and Conker except for a soon release date.
As a gamer there are so many development and publisher things that we don't understand that can affect the games' release dates. All we know is that we want both Kameo and Conker in our mitts right now! Rare, we know you're working hard on these fun stuff games and we're trying to be patient. But like a beautiful woman, once you've tasted it everything else seems bitter. Rare is the flavor of our imagination.
     Nicholas
Sorry but don't give a sh*t about conker or kameo, just want another killer instinct game, I'm not kidding the gold one make me bought a n64, so when I'm gona see one for the box gonna be the proud owner of a xbox, until then stop making moron game.
     Patrick
Mr. Pants says:
But we're making them just for you, Patty!
  Regarding Kameo and Conker...
...my biggest hope is that they will be out soon. When I heard Rare was moving to Xbox I immediately sold the PS2 and moved too. That was a year ago, and so far all I've seen is Ghoulies and as much as I loved that - I need another fix!
...my biggest fear is that they will lost in the melee of upcoming FPS games this year such as Halo 2, Doom 3, Far Cry and Half Life 2... After seeing both Sabre Wulf and Ghoulies underperform in the shops, despite their excellence, I get all worried that your games aren't getting the publicity or support that they need and deserve.
So glad the rumours about Kameo being cancelled are untrue - hope to be playing it before Christmas. Any chance of an update on that soon? And is it true that Conker is out mid-July??? If it is: fantastic! If not, tell the monkeys at XBM to get their facts right and stop raising the hopes of people like me!
     Ian R Bell
Ok, my greatest fear about Kameo is that it's going to be another fetch quest like SFA. That Kameo is going to lack the creative puzzle and game design we've come to expect from Rare (of yesteryear). The characters and environments themselves look great and the music sounds beautiful.
Fortunately I was happy with what I saw at E3, but I need to see a lot more if I am to believe Kameo will match the excellence of Rare's previous games (from last gen).
Conker was magnificent, was pleasantly surprised with how great the game looks. My major concern is the size of the maps, it seemed quite big. Most of the time players were looking for action, by the time the player approached a battle it was all over. Just want to know what Rare are going to do about keeping the action consistent and exciting. Also, I hope it's not a laggy mess like the insides of Mr. Pants' pants.
     Farhan
My greatest hope for Conker is that all of the original (or some variation) of the original multiplayer games from the N64 version are included in the Xbox version. The new Live mode looks awesome, but I need some Heist!
Also, a less important hope is that the fur gets a little thinner and shorter. It looks kind of weird right now.
     olanmills
Hopes and fears for Kameo, eh? Hmm... I do indeed hope this game will be good. What?! That's not specific enough for you?! Well how about this. I do indeed hope this game will contain action, excitement, adventure and... Twiiiiins!! [Insert adequately funky music here] In all seriousness, I hope that Kameo will be long and have a large amount of replay value. My greatest fear for Kameo is that at some point in the development, Kameo will grow fur pushing the release date ahead 5 years.
As for our friendly local Conker: Live & Reloaded, I have wonderful dreams of real time site wars. Despite what you may think, your fans are a rowdy, half-drunken bunch who have a tendency to go for each other's blood. With the advent of Live, we can take our rampant conflicts, which may or may not involve chickens, to the next level. The next level being composed of blowing the crap out of everything that moves. I also hope that there will be off-line multiplayer because not everybody can afford broadband internet and the monthly cost of Xbox Live. Also, I want to blow the stuffing out of my local friends as well as my backwards foreign ones. The only things I fear about C:L&R are the updated graphics. The very thought of the zombies *Shudder*, and The Great Mighty Poo *Whimper* just... just... *Shiver*.
And so ends a large chunk of verbal diarrhoea. Although typing it seemed more in the vein of constipation.

Mr. Pants says:
And reading it was like chewing on a massive air biscuit, you know what I'm saying, Z?
My main interest is in Conker although Kameo's cool too.
My friends and I have been huge Conker fans since it came out and we absolutely loved the multiplayer modes (Beach mode specifically). Basically, my greatest fear is that these multiplayer modes from the old game aren't in the new one at all; because I haven't seen any confirmations. Not only that, but it's been our dream to play Beach mode online since we found out Rare now works for Microsoft instead of Nintendo. I hope you can calm my fears and tell me that these modes are in the game and are also playable online.
Another fear regarding Conker's multiplayer is that the modes mainly for Xbox Live won't be playable offline and that system link won't be supported. Please at the very least make all modes playable over system link! Halo built the local Xbox networks, please support them!

Hello there Mr. Spiffing Pants Man!
Do I, or don't I loveth what I've seen of Conker and Kameo at E3? I'll keep it short, so don't worry your little tash about that.
Kameo looks fantastic, certainly a great assortment of creatures in there. Love the bosses too, by the way. Music sounds absolutely riveting too, if I might add. The only thing that worries me is Kameo's new look. What have you done? I know, it seems to be aimed more at the older audience by the looks of things, but I still think Kameo looked far better in her previous guise. Sorry, you did ask for the truth Pants, and you've got it. So there.
Conker looks beautiful. Love what you've done with the multiplayer mode and all that. Could do with a few 'green' locations to battle in though - forests and the pastures of farmers' fields for example. Well, maybe not the last one, but you get the idea.
So there you go. I'm sure we'll meet again in the future, Pants, but for now, good riddance.
     Kremloch
PS: Woops, I almost forgot... ARSE! Thankye very glen.
I have a question concerning both Kameo and Conker. Why, on the Rareware Main page, is Conker sticking a bayonet through Kameo's leg?
     Discuss.
     Adam
Mr. Pants says:
Because the Conker render is an awkward shape. Oh man - what do they teach you in school these days?
My greatest hope is that these games are so good and popular that it reminds other video game designers that there's still life left in the adventure genre. Too many shooting, fighting, racing, sports, RPG and first-person shooters and not enough third-person adventure games. What used to be common is now almost impossible to find, and since nobody knows how to make them better than you, and I mean nobody, it's up to you guys to revitalize that style of games and Kameo looks like a good start.
My biggest concern is that Conker Live is so popular that you guys decide to ditch adventure games in favor of multi-player, on-line shooters. I don't mind sharing disc space with the multi-players, or games having an on-line option, but I think some thought has to be given to the game player that has no desire to go on-line and pay the associated fees, and who doesn't have three friends that are constantly at his house playing video games. Nine times out of ten I'm playing video games solo, which doesn't help me a lot when the whole game revolves around two or more players. I like to think I can't be the only person who feels this way, but if I'm wrong, then I guess I've got my old Rare N64 games to keep me company.
I don't actually own an Xbox. I consider myself a Nintendo loyalist. However, the company that made me that way is Rare. Right now Nintendo still has better games in the genre that I want to play. If Rare can start pumping out cool adventure games for Xbox like they did in the old days, then I might be convinced to switch sides. And here's my one idea for you. When, and if, you finally get around to making a Banjo game for the Xbox, include a bonus disc for the people who do pre-orders that has Banjo-Kazooie and Banjo-Tooie on it. I will pre-order it and then buy an Xbox the day it comes out. Just a little daydream that I had.
     Shawn
I would like to talk not only for me, but for most of my Costumers of my Videogame-Store:
We all like "Conkers Bad Fur Day" on N64. It is one of the Best 3D Jump&Run Adventures all time. Now the little B*st*rd strike back on XBOX. Okay, as we hear that, we make jumps high in the Air. But than the Shock: Only Multiplayer Game with bad Grafiks.. Oh no. What Bullshit is this ? No time ? No Money ? No Ideas ?
Some later on E3 2004.. NOW we hear, that the old "Conkers Bad Fur Day" will include the new Game. And now our Please (So, that we do jumps again): Make it with SUPERB XBOX-Grafiks !!!!!!! Dont make an Emulation. Please make new Grafiks.. New Textures (More Colors and Effekts/Bumb Mappings).
And we all think, that CONKER (at its own) was the BEST Logo-Puppet for the Xbox ! You see on your Mind: Conker is kicking Mario.. Or Kicking.. (Damn.. What Logo-Guy has Sony ??!.. Well.. Kick Sony). No one can push the XBox more than Conker (Conker forever)..
BUT PLEASE !!!! MAKE A SUPERB CONKER GAME ! Not only a Multiplayer-Bullsh*t like Fuzion Frenzy, Mario Party, Sonic Shuffle>.. Bah.. No one will play something like that. .. Grabbed by the Ghoulis.. Ha. Whats that ? What have you done ? Nobody want to play that .. In the past the People just buy a game, if they see the "RARE"-Logo.. Donkey Kong Country.. Banjo & Kazooie... Where are this good heads, who has create this ? If you need good Ideas ask me, i have thousends...
Ah.. At last: What is about a good, superb Grafiks 2D-Jump & Run... Everything is now 3D .. I will play 2D-games with Superb 32Bit Grafiks, Great Leveldesign and Funny Videos.. Okay. I will go back to my Costumers. I think someone needs more Games.. Good Games.. NOW .. MAKE SOME !!!
Greetings from Germany (Sorry 'bout my bad English, folks)

Andreas Preuß
Mr. Pants says:
That's not just bad English, George - that's flat-out babbling insanity in any language. You and me, we'd get on like a house on fire! I see it on my mind! (Not sure about the 'good heads', though.)
This year's Electronic Entertainment Expo for Rareware was mind blowing fantastic, I mean I love what you guys have done to Kameo, with her new adult look, which appears amazing in her Army Corps costume, gone is her Nintendo and innocent image, which is a good thing due to the poor sales of Grabbed by the Ghoulies.
The only other issue is with the marketing and sales department relating to Conker Live & Reloaded because Rare fans like me and many before me have already successfully played and completed Conker and do not have Xbox Live due to those reasons why the heck should we purchase Conker? And let's face it, the majority of Xbox owners are off-line.
Why don't you guys cater for the full spectrum and make off-line multi-player settings and give a good reason for players who have played Conker already and who don't have broadband.
     Yours faithfully and constructively,
     Matthew Antonia
  My worst fears:
Conker: A stupid port with nothing new but graphics... lalala... graphics...
Kameo: Umm... It'll just be plain childish and stupid?
     I fear those every day...
     Fuzzyfreaker
You know what? I can't wait till Conker: Live and Reloaded is released! Wanna know why? Because I can't handle the fact that when I get onto Xbox Live and see a Rare employee and scream out "OMFG teh Raer employe3!!1" and "Lets get him fellas!" and then completely annihilate them.
     - PEACE OUT -
     Sheep Licker :)
I'd just like to say that, you happy people at Rare do a fine job on all your games. I've been a Rareware fan since the beginning when you guys were with Nintendo. Your newest games are a blast; Grabbed by the Ghoulies was a lot of fun. Conker & Kameo are looking very nice. The whole Future War looks to be a lot of fun online. Conker himself is looking amazing; he's like a whole new character. I'm glad you decided to remake Conker's Bad Fur Day; because that was one of the best N64 games I've ever played. It was above its time; Conker will fit in just right on the Xbox. So is the game going to be uncensored or censored like before in CBFD? I think it would be cool to have it both ways, but either way I'll love it. I hope to see another hilarious Conker commercial too; the first one was very funny. Give the whole Conker team a cookie for me, because they sure deserve it!
Thanks for always being so Rare and making Ware!
     Sincerely,
     Jarrod Cox Aka ConkersCrib
P.S. Here's a picture of me and my sister's b-day cake (we have the same b-day). Too bad they spelled my name wrong, oh well.
Mr. Pants says:
No, you spelt your name wrong. Also, we're filing a lawsuit against you, your sister, your baker, your grandmother, your dog, your neighbours and everyone who came to the party for unauthorised use of the image. Happy birthday, man!
First, you suck. Second, arse. Third, where's PD0?
     Demcgal

You guys - you're my guys. Anyway, there's your E3 2004 Pantsboard! Hope it made for some good readin', and if I can penetrate the sad, hero-worshipping stupor they always go into when they see me coming, I'll try to get the actual game development teams to read it as well. Pantanamo Bay!
Next time on the Pantsboard... um, good question. Maybe something about the GBA. How does that sound, fat lads?
