26/9/07: Return to Gong Season
The end of the year approaches, and a couple of 2007 awards shortlists have been spotted sidling past the window. Viva Piñata is hurriedly throwing on a nice suit and shoes in order to represent Rare. |

First up, the final shortlist for this year's British Academy Video Games Awards (previously the BAFTA Interactive Entertainment Awards) has been unveiled and includes two VP nominations, one for Artistic Achievement and the other for Original Score. Shiny gold masks will be bundled into the winners' hands at the ceremony in London on October 23rd.
Then we have the venerable Golden Joysticks, now in their 25th year and still voted for by the punters: VP has three nominations there, for Xbox Game of the Year, Family Game of the Year and, er, Girls' Choice of the Year. Rare also gets a look in on the UK Developer of the Year category. Ceremony is set for October 26th, a mere three days after the BAFTAs.
We'll bring you all the news on Rare's runaway success as soon as it comes to light, but if for some reason such a thing doesn't happen, we'll probably just shut up. |

19/9/07: Free 'n' Easy Piñatas
In case there's anybody in the UK curious to see the Viva Piñata animated series who didn't have access to its debut on Nicktoons, we thought we'd just mention that it's also been airing on Freeview channel CITV for a couple of weeks now.
Currently a single episode is being shown every weekday at 6.30am, which I know because the kids keep making me get up to record it (yes, I could set the timer but I'd rather not end up with a tape full of the Engie Benjy end credits).
Over in the US, the programme is already into its second 'season': the 4Kids site has details and showtimes and stuff. This ends your VP public service announcement. As you were.
